A mantra is a short sound, word, phrase spoken and used for meditation and mindfulness purposes. The power that comes from repetition helps keep our mind and body focused on that moment. In ancient practices, mantras have been considered sacred and to be soothing sounds. The most common mantra is “om,” and it often is used in yoga classes.
In our modern society, the term “mantra” is often confused with setting an intention or using self-affirming statements that give us the strength and confidence to face challenges or motivate us. Either way, the underlying objective is still similar: It’s a way to direct our intentions and quiet our minds to manifest a life we desire.
Think of it this way; intentions, mantras, and practice are needed to have a life of purpose. The mantras are the seeds planted into the soil of practice and routine. Mindfulness and intentions are like water and fertilizer to strengthen the seed’s potential—the more fertile soil, the greater the garden’s beauty.
When the seeds of potential are planted and adequately nourished, our life will bear the fruit of our purpose.
Recite the mantras three times before you get up each morning or in your meditation practice.
Building a Foundation
#1 Today is a beautiful day filled with blessings.
This mantra aims to start your day off feeling inspired by the many blessings you have. It also helps to redirect your mind from the things that are perhaps not going all that well. This shift in awareness will increase your feelings of enthusiasm and positivity for life’s day-to-day routine. It also promotes a sense of gratitude for the simple things in life and allows you to feel more connected to your blessings.
#2 I have so much in my life to look forward to today.
Do you struggle to get out of bed each morning? The purpose behind this mantra is to get you ready for the day ahead and to look forward to the little things rather than dreading the less desirable ones. Even if you don’t feel like you have anything to look forward to, stating these words can be enough to make a shift in your mindset and feel more motivated about your day-to-day life.
#3 Joy embraces me throughout my day.
The purpose behind this mantra is to feel a sense of lightheartedness and positivity as you move throughout your day. In the long term, this mantra can give you the ability to spread the energy of joy. And manifest it in all areas of your life and even influence others.
#4 Today, I can relax and surrender to what I do not have control over.
What would it feel like to completely trust and surrender to your life?
Many people continuously feel the need to control things and people in their life, and as a result, they often feel stressed and anxious. Life can sometimes feel overwhelming, but you have the choice to let go of your worries. Many things in our life do not need our attention or continuous involvement.
Take a step back and gain a broader perspective. When you take the time to do this, things change significantly. Give yourself permission to relax, surrender, and let life take its natural course. Trust that everything has a purpose.
“Sometimes surrender means giving up trying to understand and becoming comfortable with not knowing.” Eckhart Tolle
#5 I have the courage to face the challenges that come my way.
This mantra intends to remind you that you have the strength and ability to get through whatever obstacles and challenges are in your way. It will also encourage you to persist in times of adversity and help you open your mind to potential opportunities. Over time the mantra will naturally help you boost the feelings of self-confidence and self-esteem so that you always feel prepared to tackle all life’s ups and downs, no matter how challenging they may appear.
“Courage doesn’t always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I’ll try again tomorrow.” ~ Mary Anne Radmacher
