“Simplicity is the rhythm that heals.”
Ayurveda teaches that cleansing is not about doing more — it’s about doing less with greater intention. Each action, from waking to sleeping, can support the body’s natural intelligence to purify, digest, and renew. This guide summarizes the key do’s and don’ts during a Clease phases.
Morning (Brahma Muhūrta: 5 – 7 a.m.)
DO
- Wake before sunrise. Aligns with Vāta time — promotes clarity and mental freshness.
- Eliminate upon waking. Drink 1–2 cups of warm water or lemon water to flush toxins and stimulate peristalsis.
- Scrape your tongue (jihvā nirlekhana). Removes āma and awakens digestion.
- Oil pulling (gandūsha). Swish sesame or coconut oil for 5–10 minutes to clear oral toxins.
- Self-massage (abhyanga). Use warm sesame or almond oil before bathing — calms Vāta, supports lymph flow.
- Gentle movement. 10–20 minutes of yoga, stretching, or walking encourages circulation.
- Breath practice (prāṇāyāma). Nadi śodhana or bhrāmarī to clear mental fog and oxygenate tissues.
- Meditate or pray. Sets a calm mental tone and reduces cortisol.
DON’T
- Sleep past 7 a.m. — creates heaviness (tāmas).
- Begin the day with your phone, emails, or news — stimulates anxiety.
- Skip elimination or hold bowel urges — promotes toxin reabsorption.
- Take cold showers — constricts srotāṃsi (body channels).
- Eat immediately upon waking — allow time for natural detox.
Midday (Pitta Time: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.)
DO
- Eat your main meal at noon. Agni is strongest — body can digest heavier food.
- Eat mindfully. Sit down, chew thoroughly, and avoid screens.
- Include digestive spices. Cumin, coriander, fennel, turmeric, and ginger keep agni balanced.
- Drink small sips of warm water or CCF tea between meals to aid digestion.
- Take a short walk (100 steps) after lunch. Prevents stagnation and gas.
- Rest briefly (10–15 min) lying on your left side to assist absorption.
DON’T
- Eat on the go or while multitasking.
- Consume cold drinks or raw salads — suppresses agni.
- Snack constantly — disrupts digestion cycles.
- Overeat “healthy” foods — excess volume still burdens agni.
- Work immediately after eating — diverts energy from digestion.
Afternoon (2–6 p.m.)
DO
- Hydrate with warm teas — ginger, tulsi, or mint.
- Take a light walk or stretch — keeps lymph moving.
- Rest or reflect — mental rest aids emotional detox.
- Practice grounding breath (slow, diaphragmatic).
- Write in a reflection journal: “What am I ready to release?”
DON’T
- Overexert physically — drains post-digestive energy.
- Consume stimulants (coffee, black tea, chocolate).
- Engage in conflict or overstimulating conversation.
- Take long naps — increases Kapha and dullness.
Evening (6–10 p.m.)
DO
- Eat lightly before sunset. Soups or stews aid gentle elimination.
- Avoid screens and bright light after 8 p.m. Preserve melatonin and digestion.
- Massage feet with warm oil. Grounds Vāta, supports deep sleep.
- Drink calming tea. Chamomile, tulsi, or nutmeg milk nourish ojas.
- Reflect or pray. End the day with gratitude and awareness.
- Sleep by 10 p.m. Liver and gallbladder cleanse between 10 p.m.–2 a.m.
DON’T
- Eat late or heavy dinners.
- Work or think intensely after sunset — increases Pitta.
- Watch emotional or violent media before bed.
- Stay up past 10:30 — delays detox repair cycles.
- Sleep with electronics near the head.
Throughout the Day
DO
- Keep the body warm — wear soft natural fabrics.
- Keep digestion steady — eat at the same time daily.
- Favor gentle exercise — walking, yoga, breathwork.
- Keep thoughts kind — mental āma forms through criticism and worry.
- Hydrate slowly and consistently.
- Keep a calm environment — order supports clarity.
DON’T
- Rush, multitask, or overwork.
- Suppress natural urges (urination, sneezing, hunger, thirst).
- Compare your cleanse to others.
- Push for quick results — cleansing is cyclical, not linear.
