What do you think about when you hear the word licorice? The red or black candy. Right?
To clarify the perception that you might have about licorice, the flavor of black licorice is anise. Red licorice is well; I am not sure what the actual taste would be.
In eastern medicine, licorice root is used to sweeten bitter herbs and increase their therapeutic properties. Licorice root is an expectorant and demulcent, which helps our bodies remove accumulated mucus and congestion without irritating the mucus membranes.
We use licorice root to increase medicinal benefits and add a touch of sweetness and smoothness to our teas.

NOTE **Western medicine often uses the extract of licorice root, Glycyrrhizin, to create a more potent product.
