When our immune system is compromised, we need to ask ourselves why? And are we willing to change the course we are on and correct the underlying problems—whatever they maybe? ~Kamie Slegers
According to Ayurveda, strong immunity is a product of good digestion, quality liver functioning, and appropriately balanced hormones.
We’ve all experienced our body crashing and our health deteriorates as we fall to the inconvenience of a cold, the flu, allergies, or COVID. Most of us would rather not get sick at all and given the choice, who would refuse a strong immune system? We all want to be healthy and would rather avoid illness and disease. So, how do we support our immunity?
Ayurveda teaches us that Ojas (vitality) and immunity are the natural outcomes of optimal health, which depends on strong digestive fire (Agni), a healthy diet, a supportive lifestyle, and a balanced nervous system. With this knowledge, supporting our immune system is often more about basic self-care than anything else. Our bodies thrive with proper nutrition and adequate sleep; they do even better when we commit to stress management, cultivate healthy relationships, embrace joy and purpose, and living in alignment with our own authentic self.
We will cover a few basics to give you a foundation for building your immunity.
The research that I have studied comes from eastern and western perspectives. I am fortunate to live in a time that western medicine is proving guidelines and practices that eastern medicine has been implementing for thousands of years.
